How Iloperidone works

Iloperidone works by blocking dopamine D2 receptors (proteins responsible for synthesis & release of dopamine) and serotonin type 2 (5-HT2) receptors (proteins needed for mediating complex cognitive behaviours) in brain which results in improved thoughts, feelings and behaviour and thereby treating symptoms of schizophrenia in affected individuals.

  • Signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (life-threatening neurologic emergency associated with the use of antipsychotic medicines) such as very high fever, irregular heartbeat, fast heart rate, rapid breathing, muscle rigidity, and/or altered mental status
  • Signs of tardive dyskinesia (neurological disorder that cause involuntary movements) such as jaw swinging, repetitive chewing, rapid eye blinking, and/or tongue thrusting
  • Signs of low white blood cell count such as fever, chills, mouth sores, swelling, and/or diarrhea
  • In case of accidental overdose or ingestion
