Uses of Hyaluronidase

Hyaluronidase is used to temporarily break down the natural barrier in the body tissues so that injection or fluids injected under the skin or into muscle are more easily spread and absorbed. It also enables excess fluids and blood in the tissues to be more easily reabsorbed.

Therapeutic Category

Hyaluronidase: Enzyme

How Hyaluronidase works

Hyaluronidase works by increase the permeability (able to pass though) of connective tissue through the breakdown of hyaluronic acid. This temporarily decrease the thickness of the cellular cement and increase spreading of injected fluids or of localized transudate or exudate, thus facilitating their absorption.

Common side effects of Hyaluronidase

  • Oedema (fluid build up in body causing swelling)
  • Injection site reaction

When to consult your doctor

Consult your doctor, if you experience:

  • Angioedema (difficulty breathing, rapid pulse and profuse sweating)
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling around the eyes, face, lips, tongue, etc

Health Tips for Hyaluronidase

  • Inform your healthcare provider of any known allergies or sensitivities you have, especially if you have a history of allergies to medications or other substances
