Uses of Desmopressin

Desmopressin is used to treat diabetes insipidus (a condition with extreme thirst and continuous production of large volumes of dilute urine). It can also be used to treat primary nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting from the age of 5) and nocturia in adults up to 65 years (night-time urine production exceeding bladder capacity).

Therapeutic Category

Desmopressin: Antidiuretic hormones or vasopressin analogs

How Desmopressin works

Desmopressin mimics the action of endogenous anti-diuretic hormone. After administration, desmopressin works by reducing the amount of water that is eliminated in the urine. It enhances the reabsorption of water in the kidneys.
