Uses of Dalteparin

Dalteparin is used in the treatment or prevention of blood clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or the lungs (pulmonary embolism). It is also used in the management of unstable coronary artery disease, treat solid tumours in patients with low platelet count, and to prevent blood clot formation in the tubes of the equipment in patients having haemodialysis or hemofiltration.

How Dalteparin works

Dalteparin acts by increasing the activity of a plasma protein (antithrombin III) that inhibits formation of certain clotting factors and thus, prevents formation of blood clots.

• bleeding at any site
• pain and reactions at injection site
• hematoma (blood collection under the skin)
