Health Tips for Colchicine
- Maintain a balanced and healthful diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Purine-rich meals should be avoided since they can raise uric acid levels in the body. Organ meats, shellfish and certain types of fish are high in purines
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Hydration can help remove uric acid from the body, lowering the likelihood of gout attacks
- If you are overweight, make an effort to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Losing weight can help lower the severity and frequency of gout attacks
- Limit or prevent alcohol use, particularly beer and spirits, as these can boost uric acid levels and provoke gout attacks
- Exercise on a regular basis, as directed by your healthcare physician. Regular exercise can aid with weight loss and overall joint health
- Determine and prevent the things that cause your gout attacks. Certain meals or stress may cause gout attacks in some people. Keeping a record of your gout attacks and probable triggers will help you make informed lifestyle decisions
