Uses of Clopidogrel+Rosuvastatin

The combination of Clopidogrel and Rosuvastatin is indicated for the management of cardiovascular diseases such as acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction (also known as a heart attack), angina (chest pain due to inadequate blood supply to the heart) and stroke (reduced blood supply to the brain leading to brain death), among patients with elevated cholesterol and/or triglyceride levels along with a suitable diet, exercise and weight management regimen.

Therapeutic Category

Clopidogrel: Antiplatelets

Rosuvastatin: Antihyperlipidemics (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors)

How Clopidogrel+Rosuvastatin works

Clopidogrel + Rosuvastatin reduces the risk of heart problems, where clopidogrel acts by irreversibly inhibiting the aggregation of platelet in the coronary arteries and rosuvastatin acts by inhibiting the action of an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase which is responsible for catalyzing cholesterol biosynthesis in the body, thus reducing the chances of plaque formation/blood clots in the coronary arteries leading to the prevention of fatal cardiac outcomes.

Common side effects of Clopidogrel+Rosuvastatin

  • headache, dizziness
  • general weakness
  • nausea, stomach pain, constipation
  • muscle pain
  • bleeding problems (such as blood in the urine, bleeding in the stomach or bowels, bleeding in the nose, eyes, head, lungs or joints or bleeding under the skin)

When to consult your doctor

Consult your doctor:

  • In case of accidental overdosage
  • If you experience severe allergic reactions (signs include skin rash, severe itching of the skin with raised lumps, blisters in the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
  • If you experience fever, signs of infection or extreme tiredness
  • If you experience signs of liver problems (such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes) with or without bleeding that can appear as red pinpoint dots under the skin and/or confusion)
  • If you experience rhabdomyolysis (signs include prolonged unusual muscle weakness, tenderness or pain associated with general weakness or fever)
  • If you experience thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (a blood disorder causing blood clots forming in capillaries which may lead to high fever, severe bleeding under the skin resembling red pinpoint dots, with or without unexplained extreme tiredness, confusion or jaundice)

Health Tips for Clopidogrel+Rosuvastatin

  • Adopt a diet low in saturated and trans fats, cholesterol and sodium to promote heart health. Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats like nuts and olive oil. Reduce your intake of processed and high-sugar foods, as well as salty foods
  • Get involved in frequent physical activity. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week or as directed by your doctor. Consult your healthcare physician before beginning or drastically altering your exercise programme, especially if you have underlying cardiovascular issues
  • Losing weight can improve your cardiovascular health if you are overweight. Aim for steady, long-term weight loss by combining food and exercise
  • If you smoke, quitting is essential for cardiovascular health. Smoking increases the risk of blood clots, atherosclerosis and other heart-related issues, also avoid drinking alcohol to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease
  • If you have high blood pressure, work with your doctor to keep it under control. Changes in lifestyle, such as nutrition, exercise and medication, may be required
  • Take Clopidogrel + Rosuvastatin exactly as directed by your doctor. Follow the specified dosage and regimen. Do not change the dosage or discontinue the medicine without first consulting your doctor
