Uses of Clindamycin
Clindamycin is used to treat serious bacterial infections in adults and adolescents above 12 years of age. It is also used to treat Acne vulgaris.

How Clindamycin works
Clindamycin acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, acting against the bacteria by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome (site of protein synthesis) which in turn prevents protein synthesis and kills the infection-causing bacteria
Common side effects of Clindamycin
- rash characterised by a flat, red area on the skin that is covered with small bumps
- dryness, scaliness, or peeling of skin
- stomach pain
When to consult your doctor
- if you experience severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhoea
- if you experience any of the following allergic skin reactions:
1. Stevens-Johnson syndrome (peeling of large areas of skin, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals) and Lyell syndrome (a more serious illness with blistering of the skin)
2. extensive red skin rash with skin flaking (exfoliative dermatitis, bullous dermatitis, erythema multiforme)
3. serious allergic reaction which causes swelling of the face or throat(angioedema)
- in cases of accidental overdosages
