Therapeutic Category
Cefixime: Antibiotics
How Cefixime works
Cefixime is a powerful antibiotic with bacteriostatic properties. It works by killing the susceptible bacteria by blocking the bacterial cell wall synthesis. Unlike other cephalosporins, it can also remain unaffected by the toxic proteins produced by the bacteria (such as beta lactamases). Collectively, these actions destroy the susceptible bacteria, prevent their further growth and multiplication and reduce the severity of the infection.
Common side effects of Cefixime

- headache, dizziness
- itchiness of the genital (or vaginal) areas
