How Cefaclor works
Cefaclor effectively kills the bacteria that causes infection by inactivating certain proteins (penicillin binding proteins) which are necessary for the bacterial cell wall integrity and strength, thereby damaging the cell wall and resulting in bacterial cell death.
Common side effects of Cefaclor
- gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhoea
- signs of high eosinophil count in blood eosinophilia include fever, night sweats, swelling, weakness
- itching in genital area, moniliasis (fungal infection) or vaginitis (vaginal inflammation with pain, discharge, and itchiness)
- increased levels of certain liver enzymes
When to consult your doctor
Consult your doctor if you experience:
- sudden wheezing, breathing difficulty, swelling of the face, eyelids, limbs or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting the whole body)
- serious blistering or peeling of the skin
- severe diarrhoea, possibly with mucus or blood
