How Bisoprolol works

Bisoprolol works by blocking certain receptors (beta-1 receptors) present mainly in the heart and prevents the binding of nerve chemicals such as epinephrine. Therefore, leading to decrease in heart rate, blood pressure and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body and it also reduces the amount of blood required by the heart, reducing oxygen demand. Bisoprolol also decrease the release of a substance called renin in the kidneys (which normally increases blood pressure), decreasing blood pressure and heart rate.
