Uses of Bilastine

Bilastine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (such as sneezing, itching, runny and stuffy nose and red or watery eyes) and other forms of allergic rhinitis, which is usually caused by an allergen such as pollen, dust, mold, or flakes of skin from certain animals in adults and children above 6 years of age.   

It is also used to treat itchy skin rashes (hives or urticaria). Hives is a skin rash that may result from allergy which is triggered by reaction to food, medicine, or other irritants.

How Bilastine works

Bilastine works by stopping the binding of histamine (a chemical that is produced by the immune system) to its receptor in the body and in severe cases it prevents the initiation of an allergic reaction.

• headache
• drowsiness
• rhinitis (nasal irritation)
• allergic conjunctivitis (eye irritation)
• stomach pain (abdominal/upper abdominal pain)

• if you experience any signs of allergic reactions such as difficulty in breathing, dizziness, collapsing or losing consciousness, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and/or swelling and redness of the skin
• if you experience heart problems (signs include heart racing or slowing, cold, sweats, feeling faint, feeling the heartbeat, lightheaded, nausea and shortness of breath)
• in cases of accidental overdosages
