Uses of Betamethasone+Neomycin
The combination of Betamethasone + Neomycin is used to treat infections and inflammation (redness and swelling) of the skin, eyes, ears or other body parts. It is typically used in conditions which involves inflammation along with the risk of infection.

How Betamethasone+Neomycin works
Betamethasone is a steroid medication. It blocks the release of certain chemicals in the body (such as prostaglandins) that causes inflammation, redness and swelling. When applied topically, it reduces redness, soreness, pain, itching and swelling at the application site.
Neomycin is an antibiotic. When applied topically, it kills the susceptible bacteria that causes infection. Together, they reduce inflammation and infection of skin, eyes, ears and other body parts.
Common side effects of Betamethasone+Neomycin
- Application site reactions (such as burning sensation, irritation or itching)
- Temporary blurring of vision (if used as an eye drops)
- Slowing growth, weight gain, rounding of the face and high blood pressure
- Breathing difficulties

When to consult your doctor
Consult your doctor if you experience:
- severe eye pain, redness, irritation and vision changes, blurred vision or other visual disturbances, abnormal eye sensation, swelling and redness around the eyes, clouding of the eyes (cataracts), enlarged pupils or drooping eyelids after using eye drops
- skin irritation, redness and itching
- problems in adrenal gland (causing low blood pressure, dizziness, fever, runny nose, painful itchy skin, eye redness, muscle pain, joint pain and weight loss)
- Worsening of existing condition
Health Tips for Betamethasone+Neomycin
- Use Betamethasone + Neomycin exactly as instructed by your physician. Misuse or overuse of this medicine may lead to unwanted side effects
- If there is no improvement in your condition even after using this medicine for 7 days, consult your doctor for advice.
- If you wear soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying Betamethasone + Neomycin eye drops or eye ointment and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion
- Along with the treatment, avoid straining your eyes by looking at mobile phones, laptops or television. Wear protective eyeglasses while going outdoors
- Betamethasone + Neomycin skin ointment should be used on the face only if instructed by the physician. Do not cover the application site with bandages, dressings or clothes.
- If you are using Betamethasone + Neomycin skin ointment, avoid going near smokes or naked flames to avoid the risk of burns
- Before using Betamethasone + Neomycin, inform your doctor if you have severe viral or fungal eye infections, skin problems such as acne, rosacea (severe skin redness), red, spotty rashes around your mouth, itching in the genitals or around the anus
- You must also inform your doctor if you have glaucoma or any holes or ulcerations in the eyes as a precaution
- Do not use Betamethasone + Neomycin without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
