Alcaftadine blocks the effects of certain chemicals (Ex. histamines) in the body which are responsible for triggering the allergic response. As a result, when applied topically into the eyes, it prevents the onset of allergic reactions such as eye itching, irritation, or inflammation.

- Eye redness, irritation, itching, or burning or stinging sensation
- Headache
- Inflammation of the nose and throat
- Blurred vision, drowsiness
